Anti-Ageing Injectables for Men

For decades, cosmetic surgery was largely seen as a domain for women. However, times are changing. Men are increasingly turning to aesthetic procedures to enhance their appearance and boost their confidence.

This trend is particularly evident in the use of Botox and dermal fillers, as statistics show that the numbers of men having them has been increasing at a phenomenal rate.

According to a study published in the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, there has been a significant increase in the number of men seeking Botox and dermal filler treatments. The study analysed Google Trends data from 2004 to 2021, found that searches for terms like “Botox for men” and “dermal fillers for men” increased by over 200% during that period.

This trend is being driven by several factors, including:

  • Shifting societal norms: There is a growing acceptance of men taking care of their appearance. Men are no longer expected to be stoic and unemotional, and they are increasingly embracing self-care practices like skincare and cosmetic procedures.
  • Increased media exposure: Celebrities and influencers are openly discussing their use of Botox and fillers, which is helping to normalise these procedures for men.
  • Improved techniques: Today’s aesthetic procedures are more subtle and natural-looking than ever before, which is appealing to men who want to avoid looking “done.”

The rise of Botox and dermal fillers for men is a significant trend that is likely to continue in the coming years. These procedures offer men a way to improve their appearance without going under the knife, and they can be a valuable tool for boosting confidence and self-esteem.

Adjusting techniques for male patients

It’s a common assumption that all genders need the same treatment to look good, but it is important to recognise that there are differences between male and female patients. The shape and proportion of an aesthetically pleasing male face is quite different to that of a female – squarer jaws and chin for example. Facial fat loss tends to follow a different pattern too, with eye bags and cheek hollows making a difference to how the face looks overall.

So while dermal fillers are a good choice for replenishing lost volume it is important to respect the square jawline and not overround the cheeks. In fact, the attractive male features can be enhanced through good placement of dermal filler.

Failure to adapt can result in high arched eyebrows or rounded cheeks, which make a face appear more feminine. The starting point has to be what the patient wants to achieve.

What’s more, there is a school of thought that men are considered better looking as they age and women can be attracted to older men, so a well-executed treatment takes into account the overall picture as well as the more obvious lines and wrinkles. Celebrities who’ve gone from craggy to super-smooth make it obvious that they’ve had treatment. However, subtle use of anti-wrinkle injections can be very positive in rejuvenating the appearance in a more natural way, opening out the eyes and lifting the whole aspect of the face.

There is an art to delivering treatments. It’s not just about troubleshooting lines and wrinkles and treatments should never be delivered on a one-size fits all basis.

For best results, it’s important to choose a practitioner who has the knowledge and expertise required to understand the anatomy and inject appropriately, based on detailed patient consultation and in depth understanding of what the patient wants to achieve in every respect.

Injectable treatments are an excellent way of rejuvenating and beautifying the face to improve its appearance, but the best results are when the treatment is completely appropriate and tailored to the patient.
