ZO stands for Zein Obagi, who is a dermatologist based in Los Angeles. He has been involved in skincare since the 1980’s.
John has spent time with him in his clinic and following this was invited to be a trainer for ZO in the UK.
ZO regimes can be used to look after and maintain already healthy skin, but also gives really noticeable results in anyone with problem skin. We are able to help with issues such as acne, rosacea, sun damage, often even when mainstream NHS treatments have had no effect.

Acne and rosacea are both conditions where inflammation is promoted by oil, reducing this is a key part of treatment.
A combination of reducing oil as well as physically shrinking pores helps control problems and improve skin appearance.
One of our “fundamental five”, Daily Power Defense is a multi-purpose cream that protects and improves the skin: improves barrier function while stimulating and protecting the skin.
One of the newer products in the ZO range, this uses patented ZCORE technology to actively strengthen collagen fibrils and help sagging skin.
This strong retinol (0.5% but remember that not all retinols are the same) actively targets the dermis (deeper skin layer) for firming and smoothing effect. It can also help scarring. New formulation includes some ZCORE (see above).
1% retinol packaged in Oleosomes means that it stimulates all skin layers, but mainly more superficially. Helps to smooth fine lines, and brighten the skin.
A key development and now a mainstay in the treatment of rosacea, this reduces oil and also contains Z-RRS (Redness Reduction System) technology. Rozatrol also influences the nerve pathways that are responsible for flushing.
A 10% preparation of benzoyl peroxide helps to dry spots, reducing the severity and frequency of outbreaks. Stronger but still better tolerated that similar preparations thanks to additional anti-inflammatory agents.
By combining 4 separate ingredients, we can achieve a greater result. Retinol Skin Brightener also contains retinol (0.25, 0.5 or 1%).
Technology in sunscreens has moved on significantly in recent years, especially with ZO’s award-winning formulations. ZO sunscreens are much more than simple sun protection.
From ZO Primer and Sunscreen, ZO Daily Sheer, ZO Smarttone, to the new ZO Sunscreen and Powder we can offer protection against UV light as well as IR, another harmful source of radiation. The addition of melanin and anti-oxidants adds to the benefit for your skin.
For certain conditions we find that using prescription creams, at least initially, can be invaluable.

Major developments in the range means there is flexibility and options depending on what the patient is trying to achieve – whether there are any conditions requiring treatment (acne, rosacea) or a person is just looking for the best help and support to maintain healthy skin.
The other factor is age – older patients’ skin can benefit from more stimulation. In addition, patients’ expectations are a factor – rapid results may involve some temporary redness/dryness. Other patients might prefer to allow results to build over a longer time but without upsetting the skin.
