The skin around the eyes is very delicate and thin, which means it can be quick to show signs of ageing.
Many patients complain about eyebags or eyelids making the whole face appear prematurely aged.
Bags that develop beneath the eyes can look hollow and sunken for some patients, creating an almost skeletal appearance; while others find that the area looks to have accumulated fat and excess skin, causing creases to appear.
For some patients, the area can also look darker in colour, making them look permanently tired. This is due to the blood vessels appearing more visible through the thinned skin.
In a similar way to eye bags, eyelids can become thinner and may either appear sunken or else look to have a localised accumulation of fat which folds into creases.
As the outer skin on the eyelids is so thin, it can start to fold, progressing to a ‘hooded’ appearance in severe cases.
Patients may complain that they look exhausted, old or even that the creases make them look angry or upset all the time. Often it is this social aspect which is most troubling.
The latest medical aesthetic treatments can help enormously to improve the appearance the eyes without surgery. Injectable treatments such as dermal fillers and BOTOX®are one route that might give a good result, often immediately or at least very quickly, but there are injection-free solutions that might help too.
“Very pleased with the results of my procedure, my eyes more awake now and it’s lifted my whole face. I’m so glad you talked me out of surgery. “
