Dr Tanqueray explains the decision to invest in the M22 IPL and Laser system – the latest skin treatment technology to arrive at Mulberry House Clinic.
“We have now had our M22 IPL and Laser system for 6 months, so thought it would be a good time to share our experience with it so far.
“Choosing a replacement for our existing laser was never going to be straightforward – when we purchased it in 2004 it was only the second to be used in this country and was truly “state-of-the-art”. It is still working well but approaching the end of its useful life.
“How to choose a suitable replacement when faced with multiple systems and marketers who insist that their device is the best, the fastest, the most powerful, the most comfortable etc?
“All top end devices are very expensive to buy and to run, so we didn’t want to make a mistake.
“Fortunately we have built a good number of contacts over the last 16 years, and being able to test devices in our own clinic and talk to people we know who already use them has been invaluable.
“The standout device turned out to be the M22 model from Lumenis – a global and innovative company who have been at the forefront of light-based technology for many years.
“There was one light bulb (sorry) moment that really clinched it – There has long been a debate about whether laser or IPL is better. Laser offers a single wavelength of light energy. In the treatment of facial veins there are two useful wavelengths to choose from. Uniquely the M22 IPL allows use of both of these key wavelengths at the same time for quicker and better results.”
The Verdict – How it Works
Our experience to date has been that the device has performed better than we had expected:
- Facial veins – more rapid results and quicker treatment times with minimal upset to the skin
- Hair removal – slightly quicker treatment times with some impressively quick results. E.g. Liz is seeing results after 1 or 2 treatments that we would previously have expected to take 3 or 4 treatments to achieve. We can also now treat finer and lighter hair.
- Brown and red discolouration of the face or neck (so-called poikiloderma of Cervatte) – our old laser was never particularly good at treating these quite common problems but the new device has given us positive results even after one or two treatments.
- Skin conditions – we have the capacity to treat problems such as acne and rosacea.
- Scarring – we could not treat scarring previously and could only make minor differences to skin quality and texture, but can now achieve good results with the new Resurfx laser that is part of the new device.

John summarises:
“We can confidently say that we have made the right decision, and are enjoying using the new IPL/laser combined system for treating the following:
- Facial veins
- Discolouration
- Sunspots/lentigo (NB we still do not recommended laser for Melasma)
- Rosacea
- Acne
- Hair removal
- Scarring
- Skin texture improvement
