IPL Hair Removal

Mulberry House Clinic introduced the M22 multi-application platform in 2018, bringing the latest IPL hair removal technology to Northamptonshire.

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light.  IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology delivers controlled  blasts of intense light energy to target the hair follicles, destroying them so that they cannot grow new hair.

Treatment is so efficient that you’ll notice visible hair reduction after just one treatment session. However, individual hair follicles are only sensitive to treatment at certain stages during their growth cycle, so a number of treatments are recommended over a period of time in order to ensure that all the follicles are treated. Usually 6 treatments are required in total.

Over a course of treatment, we are able to treat nearly all the hair in the area for a thorough result that will leave your skin smooth and free of unsightly hair growth or rough stubble.

You can say goodbye to daily shaving and enjoy smooth, stubble-free skin.

IPL Hair Removal with the M22

  • Easy and comfortable treatment
  • Fast treatments – bikini or underarms only take 5 minutes to treat – much shorter than the consultation and checks we carry out beforehand!
  • Long-lasting hair reduction results – enjoy smoother hair-free skin
  • Suitable for women and men
  • Any area of the body
  • Facial treatments (e.g. top lip) can also be done

This bears no comparison to DIY IPL or cheaper/old IPL systems that may be found in certain other clinics.

IPL Hair Removal FAQs

The highly controlled pulses of light are applied to the treatment area. They are absorbed by the hair follicles beneath the skin surface while leaving the surrounding tissue intact. The absorbed light heats the hair follicles, which damages it so that hair can’t grow back in the future.

Laser hair removal is carried out by Liz Tanqueray, a former nurse with many years experience of carrying out laser and hair removal treatments.

Hair grows in cycles and only the active hair will be affected by the treatment. Dormant hair follicles will be unaffected.  Therefore in order to treat an area properly, sessions need to be repeated a few weeks apart, so that the next lot of hair can be treated.

Mulberry House Clinic offer discounts on courses, so the 6th treatment is free when a course is booked and paid for in advance.

It depends on the area being treated, but small areas such as underarms are as fast as 5 minutes.

IPL hair removal is effective on black, brown and red hair. We do not recommend it for lighter shades. If in doubt, please contact us for advice.

Firstly, we apply a cold gel. This makes treatment comfortable and also helps to deliver the pulses of light efficiently to your skin. You may feel a brief elastic band snapping sensation, but this passes quickly. Any discomfort experienced will depend on the area treated and the colour and density of the hair.

Not necessarily, it depends on the individual.  Risks to be aware of include: redness, swelling, scarring, or a change of pigmentation. We will explain this fully in your consultation.

Much of the treated hair will fall out straightaway as the gel is removed. Shedding will continue for 2-3 weeks and patients will notice less hair in the area straightaway.

Yes, we treat many male clients. Popular areas for men are back, chest, shoulders and arms.

However, please do not wax, epilate, tweeze or use hair removal cream for at least 6 weeks prior to treatment, as this works to follicle level and can harm the effectiveness of your IPL treatment.

Results vary, but you can expect at least 80% reduction of hair growth in the area treated and we usually achieve better. Any remaining growth tends to be restricted to a few strays which are soft and fine.  You may find yourself shaving every couple of weeks instead of everyday.

No, IPL is not suitable for tanned skin, so you need to avoid sun exposure and sun beds as well as fake tan prior to treatment.
