Is Beauty More Interesting than Health?

beauty treatmentsA survey of online shopping and browsing habits has shown that UK shoppers in the health and beauty sector are significantly more interested in aspirational beauty and lifestyle content than in practical health concerns.

The study of just over a million UK health and beauty web users was carried out by advertising intelligence company Exponential and found that this demographic were most interested in aesthetic issues and were also highly interested in celebrities:

  • 34 times more likely than the average internet user to consume content about cosmetic surgery
  • 18.4 x more likely to read information about acne
  • only less than 10x the average web user for health issues such as insomnia and cholesterol
  • 22.8 x more likely to read about Angelina Jolie

Francesca Baker, insights manager EMEA, Exponential, explained:

“This highlights the type of content that health and beauty consumers like to see online. It is aspirational, it is lifestyle orientated and there is a heavy skew towards the beauty sector.”
