Radiesse Dilute vs Other Dermal Fillers

Radiesse logoA comparison of results and longevity

When it comes to dermal fillers, there are a variety of brands and products available on the market, each with its own unique characteristics and benefits.

Radiesse dilute, however, is different. This is not actually product in itself, but a different way of using Radiesse and this relatively new concept is emerging in a class of its own.

Radiesse is popular dermal filler which is made of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. In this form it has the very strong lifting capacity so is ideal for creating a contour in the jawline for example. Radiesse is an extremely versatile product as we find that with progressive dilution with saline its properties change into a softer filler gel (it is then called “Radiesse Dilute”), and with further dilution it becomes a liquid (“Radiesse Hyperdilute”) and in this state it doesn’t add volume but stimulates neocollagenesis which results in the production of new collagen and elastin, restoring some of the more youthful skin texture.

So while Radiesse® is a great product for sculpting and volumising areas such as cheeks and jawlines, Radiesse dilute is chosen to improve the overall health and appearance of the skin itself through biostimulation; helping to address fine lines and wrinkles and skin laxity as well as volume loss. This dilute version is often chosen for more delicate areas of the face.

Results – Radiesse dilute vs dermal fillers

In terms of results, Radiesse dilute is known for its ability to provide immediate volume and lift to the skin, as well as stimulating the body’s natural collagen production over time. This can lead to longer-lasting results compared to other fillers that may break down more quickly in the body.

  • Radiesse Dilute: this has been studied closely, and it has been calculated exactly what dilution is required to mimic the properties of any of the well-known hyaluronic acid fillers according to how viscous or soft we wish it to be.
  • Radiesse Hyperdilute: Radiesse hyperdilute is a highly diluted form of Radiesse, a calcium hydroxyapatite-based filler. It works by stimulating collagen production, resulting in a subtle lift and improvement in skin texture without adding volume. It’s particularly effective for addressing fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity.
  • Hyaluronic Acid Fillers (Juvéderm, Restylane): Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary fillers that add volume to the skin by attracting water molecules. They are ideal for filling in wrinkles, plumping lips, and adding volume to the cheeks and temples.

Longevity – Radiesse dilute vs dermal fillers

In terms of longevity, Radiesse dilute is known to last longer than some other fillers, with results after 2 treatments lasting 12-18 months or more in some cases. This can be appealing to patients looking for longer-lasting results without the need for frequent touch-ups.

  • Radiesse dilute results typically last for about 12-18 months, with some patients experiencing longer-lasting effects due to the collagen stimulation.
  • Hyaluronic acid fillers last for about 6-12 months, depending on the product used and the individual’s metabolism.

Additional Considerations:

  • Both Radiesse and Radiesse Dilute are administered in a similar way to other filler treatment. Downtime is usually minimal and there is a low risk of side-effects – some mild and transient swelling can occur.
  • Hyaluronic acid fillers are a good option for those who want immediate results and are not afraid of needles.

Expert comment on Radiesse Dilute

Dr John Tanqueray treatmentsDr John Tanqueray, founder of Mulberry House Clinic, gives his views:

“Radiesse® is a very interesting product that we first used in the clinic when it gained approval in 2006. The science behind it is well understood. In its original form it acts as a filler with collagen-stimulating properties. When progressively diluted with saline it changes from a stiff gel (good at lifting) to a thinner gel (good for sculpting/shaping), and with further dilution it turns into a purely liquid collagen/fibroblast stimulator.

“While we are using it predominantly in the face and neck it can be used anywhere on the body including the décolletage.

“…and it gets more exciting:

“When it comes to collagen stimulation by any method we know that some people respond less well than others. A recent paper has shown that by combining Radiesse with the raw materials your skin needs (amino acids, vitamins and minerals) the results are enhanced for everyone, including in post-menopause. Reduced hollowing, wrinkling and sagging, and increased skin luminosity should be achievable for everyone after one treatment.”

Is Radiesse dilute right for me?

Overall, Radiesse dilute may be a good option for patients looking for longer-lasting results in delicate areas, but it’s important to consult with a qualified provider to determine the best filler for your specific needs and goals.
