LED is one of the gentlest light-based skin treatments yet it is highly effective on a range of skin conditions from anti-ageing to tackling pigmentation, eczema, acne, rosacea and more.
Other light-based treatments such as IPL or laser can be quite intense, but LED is a totally non-invasive treatment which is safe for all skin types with minimal downtime or recovery implications.
LED treatment works with the body’s natural processes and the skin’s own renewal and healing mechanisms.
How LED Works
LED stands for ‘Light-emitting diodes’. These are essentially very small light bulbs which put out visible wavelengths of light. The treatment can be engineered to utilise or combine the most appropriate form of light waves, each of which has a different role to play in stimulating, regenerating, healing or nurturing the skin:
- Red light: stimulates fibroblast cells in the skin. This triggers the production of collagen and elastin, which helps to reduce lines and improve tone and texture for a rejuvenating result
- Near infrared: NIR light soothes inflammation, irritation and redness – plus it also promotes skin healing
- Blue light: works to destroy acne bacteria as well as helping to rebalance oil production and preventing breakouts
Further benefits of treatment with LED include:
- Improving enzyme repair and helping the lymph system
- Stimulating new cell growth
- Boosting circulation and stimulating new capillaries
This means that even where LED treatment is used for a specific condition, such as acne or eczema; patients can also expect to see an improvement in the general condition of their skin. They find it softer, smoother, clearer and more radiant.
What’s more, the skin’s regeneration continues in the weeks following treatment as cell renewal is not instant, so the impact gets better.
