Dry Skin
More than just a moisturiser problem.
Dry skin is one of the most common skin concerns — and one of the most frequently under-addressed. Many patients manage it with over-the-counter moisturisers without ever resolving the underlying issue, because surface hydration only goes so far. Genuinely dry skin needs treatment that works at a deeper level, restoring the skin’s own capacity to retain moisture rather than simply adding it temporarily from the outside.
Skin dryness has two distinct mechanisms. Dehydration is a lack of water within the skin — often temporary, worsened by environment, diet, alcohol and certain skincare products. True dryness is a deficiency in the skin’s natural lipid barrier — the oil-based layer that prevents moisture from evaporating. Without a functioning lipid barrier, water escapes from the skin regardless of how much is applied.
Both worsen with age. The hormonal changes of perimenopause and menopause significantly accelerate dryness. Cold weather, central heating, hot showers and harsh skincare products all compound the problem. Dry skin presents as tightness and discomfort, a dull or rough surface texture, flaking, fine surface lines, and in more severe cases sensitivity and reactivity.
Treatments to consider.
Skin boosters are the most effective clinical treatment for dry skin. Profhilo delivers concentrated hyaluronic acid deep into the skin, triggering bioremodelling and dramatically improving hydration, plumpness and barrier function. Polynucleotides repair at a cellular level and restore the skin’s own capacity to retain moisture.
The right daily skincare regime is the foundation of managing dry skin. Barrier-supporting ingredients including ceramides, squalane, hyaluronic acid and growth factors address dryness at the source and maintain the results of clinical treatment.
