Acne
The most common skin condition in the world — and one we know well.
Acne affects over 85% of people at some point in their lives. It is not just a teenage problem — around 26% of women aged 31 to 40, and 12% of women aged 41 to 50, will suffer from it. At Mulberry House we regularly see adults in their 30s and 40s who have been dealing with acne for years, often without finding a treatment that works.
Mulberry House Clinic is the only Acne and Rosacea Association (ARA) Accredited Treatment Centre within a 10-mile radius of Northampton — an accreditation that reflects the depth of knowledge and quality of care our team brings to the management of acne and rosacea.
Acne develops when the skin's sebaceous glands produce excessive amounts of sebum. The excess mixes with dead skin cells and blocks hair follicles. Bacteria that live naturally on the skin can then infect these blocked follicles, triggering the inflammation, spots and cysts that characterise acne. Acne is not caused by dirty skin or poor hygiene — this is one of the most persistent and unhelpful misconceptions about the condition.
Acne ranges from mild blackheads and whiteheads to severely inflamed, painful pustules and cysts. In its more severe forms it can lead to scarring and post-inflammatory pigmentation. The psychological impact — on self-esteem, confidence and social wellbeing — can be significant and should not be underestimated.
Treatments to consider.
There is no single treatment that works for everyone. Finding the right approach takes expertise, and often involves a combination of skincare and clinical treatment that evolves as the condition responds and improves.
Professional Skincare — ZO Skin Health offers targeted products for acne-prone skin, addressing oil production, congestion and inflammation. Getting the skincare regime right is often the most important first step.
Chemical Peels — help clear congestion, reduce oiliness, and improve overall skin clarity.
Microdermabrasion — mechanical exfoliation that reduces blocked pores and improves skin texture.
ResurFX™ Laser Skin Resurfacing — for active acne and skin quality improvement.
