Advanced skin technology systems Ultherapy and Tixel both work by introducing heat into the skin – and they can achieve remarkable results in improving and rejuvenating the skin. So how do they compare?
Dr John Tanqueray MB BCh MRCGP DCH DRCOG DipOccMed BCAM, founder and Aesthetic Doctor at Mulberry House Clinic, shares his comparison of the two treatments.
Mulberry House Clinic is renowned for having a wide range of advanced skin technology systems with a selection that is unusual to find even in top Harley Street clinics.
Dr Tanqueray has chosen to invest in making the clinic a real centre of excellence with a range of choices to suit each client’s unique condition and concerns.
This comparison looks at how Ultherapy works and performs compared to TIXEL. Dr Tanqueray is highly trained and personally experienced in both of these platforms.
Ultherapy vs TIXEL comparison
Ultherapy and Tixel both work by introducing heat into the skin but the technology is quite different:
- Ultherapy works by delivering ultrasound energy to the deeper layers of skin. The energy creates heat which stimulates the body’s natural healing responses, stimulating growth of new collagen.
- TIXEL thermal fractional rejuvenation transfers pure heat to the skin quickly and safely. The thermal energy is delivered through a very brief contact using a matrix of pins at high temperature.

Which skin treatment to choose?
Both Ultherapy and TIXEL are excellent treatments for stimulating the skin without the need for surgery or injections, but the way they work and the results they achieve are different. Dr Tanqueray can advise on which treatment is most appropriate at consultation.
This takes into account examination and discussion of what the patient is trying to achieve, as one treatment may be preferable over another fo certain conditions and concerns. For example, only TIXEL can treat the delicate eye area, while Ultherapy is a better choice for firming and lifting, especially around the jawline.
Treatment recommendation also considers lifestyle issues; so some patients may prefer a single intensive session (Ultherapy) while others may choose more shorter sessions (TIXEL)
