Non-Surgical Treatments for Eye Bags

Facial-AgeingMany people struggle with the appearance of eye bags.

Dark circles and loose skin beneath the eyes can be very ageing, but it also can make a person appear tired and unhealthy. Eye bags can even make a person look moody, depressed, angry or cross all the time – even when they’re not – which is a major reason why many people are keen to do something about the appearance of eye bags, loose skin and dark circles under the eyes.

One of the problems is that the skin around the eyes is very delicate and thin, so any signs of ageing are exaggerated. The skin lacks depth and solidity so can become loose and crepey, forming folds and creases.

Thin skin can also mean that the vessels and capillaries show more readily, giving the appearance of darker skin. Some people even find that their eye bags look bruised due to the discoloration.

Fat loss which can happen with dieting, exercise or just the ageing process, tends to amplify the effect, so eyebags can seem to sink deeper, becoming more hollow and ‘skeletal’ with time.

Treatments for Eye Bags

The good news is that modern aesthetic medicine has a host of potential solutions, depending on the nature of the client’s eye bags as well as their expectations, age and tolerance of any side-effects.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are designed to replenish lost volume and can be used to add depth within the skin. This can be effective for crepey skin with fine lines. The additional fullness can also help to mask the darkness that appears when veins and blood vessels show through.

Plexr®

Plexr® Soft Surgery System is an effective non-surgical alternative to blepharoplasty (eye lift or eye bag surgery). It uses plasma energy in a ‘sublimation’ process which causes the skin tissue to retract and tighten for a younger and smoother appearance.

Tixel® Thermal Fractional Rejuvenation

Tixel® is an innovative treatment which uses pure heat to stimulate the skin tissue in regeneration and tightening. The non-ablative treatment is less aggressive so suitable for delicate eye tissues, yet can produce noticeable rejuvenation results.

What About Surgery?

There is a limit to what can be achieved with non-surgical methods. The fundamental difference with surgery is the removal of excess skin, which does not happen with non-surgical treatments.

For clients who have significant fullness, severe eye bags and high expectations for results, it may be that surgery is the recommended course of action.

However, the benefits of the non-surgical approach include greater safety, lower cost and shorter downtime/recovery implications; which is appealing and preferable for many clients.
