Lips & Lip Lines
Volume, definition and the lines that develop around the mouth.
Lip concerns fall into two distinct categories — and understanding which applies is the starting point for choosing the right treatment. The first is about the lips themselves: their volume, shape, definition and proportion. The second is about the skin around the mouth: the fine vertical lines that develop above the upper lip, the corners that turn downward with age, and the overall quality of the perioral skin.
Lip volume reduces naturally with age as the fat pads within the lips diminish and the supporting bone remodels. The lips lose their projection, their defined border, and the cupid’s bow becomes less pronounced. The philtrum — the column between the nose and the upper lip — elongates, which causes the lip to rotate inward and appear thinner. These changes can make the face look older and more drawn around the mouth.
Perioral lines — the fine vertical lines above the upper lip — develop from a combination of muscle movement, volume loss and skin thinning. They are accelerated by smoking, sun exposure and repeated pursing of the lips. They can be one of the more challenging concerns to address, as the perioral area is complex and requires a combination of approaches for the best result.
Treatments to consider.
Lip filler restores volume, shape and definition to the lips — enhancing their natural contour without creating an artificial or overdone result. The goal at Mulberry House is always to enhance what is there rather than to change it — producing lips that look naturally fuller, better defined and more youthful. The amount of product used is always conservative and agreed at consultation.
Anti-wrinkle injections address the muscle activity that drives perioral lines and a downturned mouth — small doses relax the orbicularis oris muscle, softening lines and lifting the corners. Skin boosters improve the quality and hydration of the delicate perioral skin, complementing more targeted treatments. Polynucleotides are particularly effective for fine perioral lines, repairing skin quality at a cellular level. Professional skincare — particularly retinol and growth factors — supports skin thickness and resilience around the mouth and helps slow the formation of new lines.
