Ultrasound is a treatment that uses high frequency sound waves to create heat energy within the skin, where it triggers tightening, lifting and rejuvenation. Significant results can be achieved without using injections or lasers.
This is a relatively recent development in aesthetic treatments that offers clients an opportunity to achieve natural-looking anti-ageing results.
Perhaps the biggest name in ultrasound treatments is Ultherapy Ultrasound Lifting and Tightening. This treatment was launched in 2020 at Northamptonshire-based Mulberry House Clinic and has fast become a favourite treatment at the clinic, where it is used to work on a variety of the most common and yet perplexing signs of ageing.
What is Ultrasound?
Focused ultrasound is a treatment that directs very high sound wave frequencies into the skin tissues where the vibrations and friction can generate heat energy which in turn triggers changes such as cell repair and renewal.
Experts estimate that the energy heats those deeper skin tissues to 65-75°, which is the temperature at which existing collagen loses its structure and then reform thicker than it was before. In addition, new collagen develops. It is the collagen changes and development which cause the skin to tighten and create a pleasing ‘lift’ which delivers a more youthful shape in the months following treatment.
The fact that results are not instant is a benefit for clients who prefer a natural-looking approach to anti ageing treatment. In fact, the results are all natural, as it is the skin literally healing and rejuvenating which creates the finished effect.
Signs of Ageing
Over time the skin tends to lose elasticity as well as volume, which leads to the formation of lines, wrinkles, creases and sagginess caused by the loosening of tissues. This is especially noticeable around the jawline/jowls/chin area, which can lose definition.
Ultherapy treatment is a unique and completely non-invasive solution.
Dr John Tanqueray MB BCh MRCGP DCH DRCOG DipOccMed BCAM, founder and Aesthetic Doctor at the clinic, shares his perspective on the treatment:
“Most treatments that rely on creating heat in the skin have a reputation for being painful, but in our experience we have found that almost everyone who has had Ultherapy so far has found it remarkably comfortable, with most giving a gauge of 3 out of 10 for discomfort, with an occasional 5 at some point during the process.
“We believe Ultherapy is ideal for maintenance and improvement in your natural skin structure for the medium and longer term.
“It represents an “investment in your own collagen” – by improving the skin envelope it can optimise results from “dermal filler treatments and help avoid the risk of over-treatment.”
