SILHOUETTE SOFT® thread-lifts are now available at Mulberry House Clinic, offering an effective yet much safer and gentler option than full face lift surgery for those patients with early signs of ageing.
This uses one or more absorbable sutures to create a lifting effect for the face and jawline in a procedure that takes under an hour and can last for up to 18 months.
The benefits of the Silhouette Soft Thread Lift include:
redefined face and jawline
softer, smoother looking skin
takes under an hour
safer and more economical than surgery
FACIAL CONTOURING using 2 or 3 sutures on each side of the face, the contours are redefined, leaving firmer skin with fuller-looking cheeks
LOWER JAW using 2 sutures on each side of the face, the jaw contour regains its definition, while the cheeks appear fuller
CHEEKS AND CHEEKBONES using 2 sutures on each side of the face, the cheekbones are redefined and the cheeks regain a more youthful fullness. The nasolabial fold (nose to mouth lines) also appear diminished
How it Works
Technologically advanced absorbable sutures are used to lift the face, smoothing out signs of ageing for a result that looks fresh and natural.
The effect is enhanced as the suture itself stimulates collagen production around it in the following months, so that the skin regenerates, appearing plumper, tighter and firmer. In this way, results continue to improve.
The effects will usually last up to 18 months, and will be best for areas where any laxity is mild.
Silhouette Soft Thread Lift FAQ
What does the process involve?
1. A small amount of local anaesthetic is administered to numb the site where the suture will be inserted, then the doctor inserts the suture about 3-5 mm under the skin using a very fine needle.
2. The suture is held in place with specially designed absorbable ‘cones’ which are positioned in opposite directions
3. Once the suture is positioned, the doctor will compress and manipulate the tissue and the suture to achieve the desired lifting effect; then the ends of the suture are cut off
How soon will I see the 'lift' effect?
The lifting effect is immediately visible after the doctor finishes compressing the tissue after inserting the threads.
The compressions involve the doctor applying slight pressure on the treated area to reshape the surface of the skin and manipulate it into a higher position, making the skin visibly smoother.
How does the collagen regeneration work?
The Poly L-lactic acid material of the threads acts on the deeper layers of the skin and stimulates the body to produce collagen. New collagen adds volume in the skin, boosting saggy areas, smoothing out lines and adding to the ‘lift’ effect created by the threads.
What are the threads made of?
The principal component of Silhouette Soft is Poly L-lactic acid – PLLA.
This is a well-known polymer with an excellent track record. PLLA has been used for many years in a variety of biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, including: suture threads, orthopedic pins, rods, screws, nails for bone fractures.
Poly L-lactic acid is particularly biocompatible with human beings.
Where is it made?
Silhouette Soft is made in the USA. That means that it is subject to numerous rigorous health and safety controls. It was the first suspension suture to receive clearance from the FDA back in 2006.
Where else is it used and approved?
Silhouette Soft has been used worldwide with procedures carried out in over 60 countries.
It is EC approved for the European market under CE 0499 and the manufacturing site complies with the requirements of international standards ISO 13485.
They don’t! Silhouette Soft threads are completely biodegradable and are gradually broken down quite harmlessly within the skin via the body’s natural processes.
Is Silhouette Soft right for me?
Silhouette Soft can be used for a wide variety of clients. It is particularly recommended for men and women of 30 and over who are trying to treat the signs of ageing without surgery.
Does it look natural?
Silhouette Soft gives very natural looking results, thanks to the unique combination of lifting and skin regeneration (collagen production). The skin may look a little tight in areas for the first few days, which is why we recommend planning well in advance of a big event, to ensure that the lifting effect has settled and the skin regeneration is well underway.
Do I need to do anything to prepare my skin for treatment?
No special preparation is required prior to Silhouette Soft treatment.
Who can carry out Silhouette Soft thread lifting procedures?
Application of Silhouette Soft must be performed by a doctor who has undergone specific training.
How long does the treatment take?
In general, we advise up to a hour for this treatment, although it does depend on what specific area is being treated. Dr Tanqueray will give more accurate advice at your consultation, based on your discussions.
Some patients experience swelling or bruising after a thread lift and sometimes, a slight depression or skin irregularity may appear at the entry points. For that reason, we advise planning the procedure well in advance of any big events.
What aftercare advice do I need to be aware of?
Silhouette Soft advise the following
The doctor may prescribe an antibiotic cream to apply on the entry and exit points of the sutures twice a day (morning and in the evening, for 5 days):
Apply cold packs immediately after the procedure if required (wrap cold packs in a cloth to avoid direct contact with skin and insertion point)
Take painkillers as required e.g. paracetamol in case of pain (2-3 days)
Refrain from applying make-up for as long as possible (minimum 24 hours)
Sleep face up, in an elevated position on pillows (3-5 nights)
Wash, shave and dry face gently without rubbing or massaging (5 days)
Avoid excessive face and neck movements (2 weeks)
Avoid over-exposure to direct sunlight and do not use tanning beds (2 weeks)
Avoid sports, in particular high impact sports e.g. running (2 weeks)
Avoid saunas or steam rooms (3 weeks)
Avoid dental surgery (3 weeks)
Avoid face and neck massages and face and neck aesthetic treatments (4 weeks)
Dr Tanqueray will review this thoroughly at your consultation and give any individual advice as appropriate.
