Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Your Laser Hair Removal Questions Answered

Can any hair be treated?

Laser hair removal works on dark hair, so if your hair is brown or black it should be effective for you.

Unfortunately the treatment will not work for blonde, grey or auburn hair. This is because melanin(dark pigment) is necessary to absorb the laser energy.

Does it matter if I have a darker skin type?

No – our laser can safely treat any skin type, even the darkest of skins.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically you are likely to need 6 treatments, although sometimes our clients have an excellent result after 4.

How often will I need the treatments?

For best results, treatments are repeated to a set schedule in order to tackle hair at different stages of the growth cycle

  • face is every 4 weeks
  • underarm/bikini/back every 6 weeks
  • arms/legs every 8 weeks.

What aftercare advice do you recommend?

After treatment, we will apply aloe vera based products, which work to soothe, calm and moisturise the treated area immediately.

We recommend patients to follow some simple aftercare guidelines at home:

  • Continue to apply a natural aloe vera gel to soothe and moisturise the skin as required
  • Avoid heat such as hot showers, hot baths, sauna, steam room and swimming for 24-48 hours
  • Avoid make up and perfumed products on the treated area for 24 hours
  • Avoid exposure to the sunlight where possible, if the skin is exposed then use a sun protection SPF 30+
  • Avoid tanning between treatments in order to keep the skin as pale as possible for best contrast to the hair and optimum results
  • Do not use any hair removal method that removes the root between treatments – i.e. avoid waxing, tweezing or epilation
  • Shaving is fine between treatments and there is no need to let hair grow more than a week prior to treatment
  • Call Mulberry House Clinic if you have any queries or concerns after your treatment

Do I Need a Test Patch?

No, with our laser equipment there is no need for this. However, there is a consultation prior to treatment. This is provided free of charge (many competitors charge £25-£35 for this).

What Laser Do You Use?

We use an Nd Yag laser. We have chosen this system as it is safe and effective for all skin types and in our view superior to IPL.

Why is Laser Better than IPL?

We commonly see people who are having or have had IPL for hair removal and been disappointed with the results. IPL clients can still be going after as many as 12 or even 16 treatments. We expect good results after 6!

How Does Laser Hair Removal Compare to Electrolysis?

The treatments are shorter than electrolysis, less painful and suitable for all hair and skin types.
