PRP: Your Body’s Key to Anti-Ageing?

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy (PRP) has received a lot of attention in the last few years.

PRP is a treatment which uses the healing element of patients’ own blood to stimulate skin cell renewal for anti-ageing and skin improvement.

Platelet Rich Plasma Process Step By Step

PRP treatment utilises your own blood, so how does it work?

  1. Blood sample taken: a small amount of blood is taken, usually from the arm. It’s generally no more than 2-4 tablespoons, so a really tiny amount
  2. Blood prepared: the blood sample is prepared in a centrifugal device, which separates  the powerful platelets from the rest of the blood, extracting the ‘platelet rich plasma’ which is so valuable in healing and renewal
  3. Platelet rich plasma injected/applied: the refined PRP solution is delivered back to the body
    1. EITHER via injection, often using a ‘mesotherapy‘ approach of multiple tiny injections to enhance the healing process
    2. OR via microneedling using a roller or a pen to create tiny punctures in the skin’s surface which allows the PRP to be absorbed to the inner layers

Patients like the natural approach. There are no chemicals, toxins, fillers or additives used in the process. The only ingredient is their own blood.

There’s no need to worry about the sight of blood either, it’s actually a very clean process (despite what a certain celeb’s Instagram may have indicated!).

Benefits of PRP Treatment

Platelet rich plasma treatment is incredibly versatile. It was originally developed for treating burns and now has a host of potential applications in sports medicine, helping athletes to recover from injury.

In the field of skin treatments, potential uses include:

  • Reduce wrinkles, lines and creases
  • Create natural volume to plump up sagging skin
  • Improve skin tone and complexion
  • Diminish acne scars
  • Promote radiance

PRP treatmentIt can be used on any area of the face or body. Popular areas include:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolleté
  • Hands
  • Eyes

Many of these areas would be considered too delicate for other treatments, but by using refined platelet rich plasma, PRP is a safe and effective procedure even in the more challenging areas.
