Don’t Delay COVID Vaccine For Cosmetic Treatments

covid vaccine dermal fillersMedical experts have voiced concerns that younger clients may be choosing not to get COVID vaccine due to concern that it might interact with their cosmetic treatments.

The Daily Mail reported on 7th January, saying that only around 1 in 3 young women in England had received their booster jab. One of the reasons cited was that the Covid vaccine would be  potentially incompatible with their Botox or fillers.

Dr John Tanqueray of Mulberry House Clinic advises his patients to make the COVID-19 vaccination their absolute priority.

“Getting full protection against coronavirus is the single most important thing you can do for your health this year.

“We understand that clients are keen to refresh their skin and appearance after the last couple of years. However, it is vital to be protected from the virus first and foremost. The risks from coronavirus far outweigh the risks from a reaction to one of the vaccines if the patient has had dermal fillers.”

He went on to explain that in the case of dermal fillers, the clinic would recommend leaving a gap between having the vaccine and having dermal fillers.

“If booking an appointment for dermal fillers, it is currently recommended that you avoid filler treatment 2 weeks before and 3 weeks after having a Covid vaccine. This is to avoid a potential side effect of developing redness, swelling and lumps. It is a rare side effect, but best to leave a gap before and after fillers if you can, in order to avoid it.

John continued to add that vaccination is not in itself incompatible with most cosmetic treatments.:

“Based on scientific evidence, there is no need for any kind of restriction with treatments such as BOTOX® or IPL laser.

“Having the vaccine doesn’t actually stop you from having most cosmetic treatments and having cosmetic treatments need not prevent you from having the vaccine.

“In case of any concerns, we’d be happy to chat and help you work out the best treatment plan and timings, depending on your vaccination status.”
