BOTOX® (botulinum toxin type A) by Allergan has been voted winner at the 2019 Aesthetics Awards in the category ‘Injectable Product of the Year’.
This category is competitive as it is open to manufacturers and distributors of injectable products available in the UK. The awards looked for products that:
- Support a wide range of indications
- Show evidence of good safety and efficacy
- Display optimum duration in terms of results
- Have tangible benefits over similar products on the market
BOTOX® – Aesthetics Awards Winner
BOTOX® is not new – in fact, the brand celebrated its 30th anniversary this year – as well as seeing the 100 millionth vial produced, making it by far the most popular treatment of its kind.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the appearance of wrinkles and frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet lines and on the forehead.
The product was originally approved in December 1989 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of strabismus, blepharospasm, and hemifacial spasm. Approval for cosmetic and anti-ageing treatments followed much later in 2002 and it is this that catapulted BOTOX® to a household name. It has also been approved for a range of therapeutic purposes including hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), migraine and bladder control.
The product’s history of ongoing innovation in terms of medical and cosmetic applications illustrates why 30 year old BOTOX® was chosen in a category that rewards excellence.

Including both aesthetics and therapeutics indications, BOTOX® has 35 approved indications globally, including a range of disorders including depression, migraine, bladder overactivity, blepharospasm, tremor, cervical dystonia and multiple sclerosis and is available in 97 countries worldwide. Ten of those indications currently approved in the UK.”
