‘Fat Freezing’ Treatment
for Unsightly Fat Rolls
If you can pinch 2.5cm of excess fatty tissue (about an inch), then the area is suitable for cryolipolysis treatment.
Cryolipolysis is a form of non-surgical liposuction for targeting and tackling pockets of fat that can accumulate on the body.
It is not a weight loss treatment, nor is it a substitute for a healthy diet and active lifestyle. However, for those of us who have specific problem areas, where an accumulation of fat is noticeable and creates an unpleasing silhouette, cryolipolysis is a potential solution.
Quick Test for Cryolipolysis Suitability
Dr John Tanqueray, founder and Medical Director of Mulberry House Clinic & Laser Centre, which offers CRISTAL® Cryolipolysis, suggests that if you can pinch an inch (2.5cm) then the area is suitable for treatment. Gently raise a fold of skin and pinch the skin and fat in the area you are concerned about to see how thick it is. The best places to measure are:
- Abdomen: Pinch and measure about halfway between your belly button and the side of your waist
- Thighs: Pinch and measure about halfway between the knee and the top of the thigh
- Arm: Pinch and measure at the back of the triceps about halfway between the shoulder and the elbow
This is only a quick estimate, but should give you an idea of whether cryolipolysis is likely to be of benefit to you.
Cryolipolysis works on the principle that when you apply intense cold, fat cells will freeze before the skin is damaged. The cooling of the fat triggers a the destruction of lipid cells in the treatment area. These are then expelled by the body’s metabolic processes, revealing a smoother and slimmer silhouette over the following months.
Inch Loss Benefit
The first objective of treatment is to reduce the overall volume for ‘inch loss’ benefit. Each treatment with CRISTAL® Cryolipolysis is expected to deliver around 25% reduction in fat.
So while cryolipolysis should not be thought of as a weight loss procedure, it can be expected to deliver a visible and noticeable reduction in fat.
What’s more, clients who have had the treatment tend to be inspired to maintain the results. It can be a real incentive for carrying on with a healthy diet and exercise programme to prevent the fatty deposits from building up again in the future.
However, the procedure is also carried out with a view to reshaping and contouring the treated area for a more appealing body shape.
Mulberry House Clinic & Laser Centre offers CRISTAL® Cryolipolysis system, which offers a number of advantages over some of the alternatives:
- Most clients need just 2 treatments – other ‘fat freezing’ systems usually require more sessions
- 25-30% of the fat treated is eliminated after each session
- Around 95% of patients will see final results 6-8 weeks after treatment
Popular areas for cryolipolysis treatment are:
- Hips/love handles/muffin top
