Winter Psoriasis SOS: LED Treatment

psoriasis-led-treatmentPsoriasis is a very difficult skin condition which is estimated to affect about 2% of the UK population.

It is classed as an autoimmune disease and patients find their skin blighted by raised, red, scaly patches.

Psoriasis is most commonly found on the limbs (arms/legs/knees/elbows) but can also affect the scalp and chest/back. It can even affect the nails. Many patients find that their psoriasis is uncomfortable, dry and itchy. Some even find that it burns and stings.

Skin studies have found that psoriatic skin turns over up to 10 times the normal rate, so flakiness and shedding are also issues.

Winter Psoriasis

The winter can be the most difficult time for psoriasis sufferers, due to the combination of dry air, colder temperatures and lower sunlight exposure.

The first line of treatment is usually using creams and moisturisers to hydrate the skin in order to try to alleviate the symptoms. Some patients find that a home home humidifier can make it more comfortable.

Sunlight Treatments

Most patients find that psoriasis naturally improves in the summer, but apart from a long holiday abroad, this is difficult in the winter. Some try sun lamps/sunbeds, but these do not really replicate the sun as they emit mostly UVA light.

Dermalux LED

led skin therapyDermalux LED offers an alternative treatment option for psoriasis. This is a non-invasive skin treatment option which harnesses the power of 3 specifically chosen light waves (red, near infrared and blue light treatment) that are absorbed by the skin where they work to boost the skin’s renewal and healing processes.

Treatment works by accelerating the body’s own natural repair processes with cell renewal and collagen production. This can improve a host of skin concerns and issues including psoriasis.

Treatment is gentle and safe for sensitive and inflamed skin. By preventing bacterial infection and relieving itchiness, the clinically proven, UV free alternative stimulates the body’s own natural response for healing.

Dermalux skin treatment has been awarded a number of prizes including ‘Treatment of the Year’ award in the Aesthetics Awards 2016.
