June is Acne Awareness month, dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of a common skin condition.
Acne is commonly thought to be a condition associated with puberty, but a recent study found that 14% of UK women aged 26-44 in the UK now suffer from facial acne and cases of adult acne are said to be on the increase due to stress.
The red, angry-looking outbreaks of spots can go on for years and in many cases will leave scarring. 71% of people say that their acne scars negatively affect their self-confidence and 66% of people say their acne scars make them feel frustrated or angry.

ZO Skin Health Acne Solutions
ZO Skin Health offers a variety of products to enable skin health doctors to put together a bespoke programme of treatment. The principles include a good at home skincare regime, for example:
- CLEANSE: morning and evening to help remove sebum. Wash your skin for one full minute with warm (not hot) water and then apply a toner. ZO Skin Health Exfoliating Cleanser is ideal for oily and acne-prone skin.
- EXFOLIATE: to remove buildup of dead cells, oil and debris and help to avoid clogged pores. Exfoliating Polish by ZO Skin Health contains magnesium crystals – effective yet gentle in
- OIL CONTROL: ZO Skin Health TE pads combine salicylic acid and glycolic acid to control oiliness and breakouts
- NO MOISTURISER!: ZO Skin Health programmes surprisingly don’t often include moisturiser as it results in buildup of dead cells. Sometimes a moisturiser with active ingredients may be recommended, such as Ommerse Daily Renewal Crème or Ommerse Overnight Recovery, from ZO Skin Health
An appropriate custom-designed skincare regime with professional and prescription products can show results within a few short weeks
ZO Medical 3-Step Peel
For optimum results, a professional chemical peel can gently strip away the outer layers of skin to remove debris and dead skin cells.
ZO Medical’s 3-step peel includes salicylic acid, trichloracetic and lactic acid to remove the outer layers and debris before applying a 6% retinol cream which stimulates deeper layers of the skin for collagen production, cellular renewal, anti-oxidant benefits and DNA protection.
