With the increase in selfies, one of the areas which has come under more scrutiny than ever is the chin.
There’s a reason why celebrities like to hold the camera high and look upwards – it lifts and smooths out the risk of extra chin volume making a photo unattractive.
In a survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a third of surgeons reported seeing more patients wanting to look better on social media. Dr Sam Rizk, a Manhattan-based plastic surgeon, said:
“There has been a 25% increase over the past year-and-a-half to two years.
“They come in with their iPhones and show me pictures. Selfies are just getting to be so crazy.”
The chin is said to be one of the key areas of concern.
As we age, the fat tends to collect around and below the jawline. This is exacerbated for those whose jawline shape and structure is naturally less prominent. The chin will also tend to gather fat from facial weight gain.
