Sculptra Biostimulatory ‘Dermal Filler’ Boosts Collagen

Sculptra Collagen-Boosting Injections

Sculptra is a well-established product in the professional skin treatments market and back in the news after receiving FDA approval for treating fine lines and wrinkles.

As a non-invasive injectable treatment, Sculptra is different to the more common hyaluronic acid based dermal filler injections. It is made of strong polymer called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) which is a similar substance to dissolvable sutures. Rather than adding volume to the skin, it promotes the natural process of collagen production. Results develop over 6-12 weeks after treatment, improving the skin’s tone and texture.

It is traditionally chosen for improving the firmness of the skin and increasing volume to create a rejuvenated and lifted facial profile. However, the FDA approval of the product for fine lines and wrinkles indicates a wider potential for this treatment; and while the Federal Drugs Authority has no jurisdiction in the UK, the new label does show that the product has met exacting standards for this kind of treatment.

It can be used to smooth out lines and crease, build a more defined cheekbone, chin or jaw-line, or even within a full ‘liquid facelift’.

Collagen Boosting

Since Sculptra actually stimulates the skin’s own collagen-producing cells, patients can expect a natural-looking result. The volume comes from the body’s own resources and therefore there is much less risk of it looking overdone or puffy.

Collagen is essential for making the skin appear youthful, with a firmer and more elastic texture. As we age the production of collagen begins to slow down and wrinkles begin to develop. Replenishing the collagen in the skin makes it appear more youthful and gradually restores the look of smoother skin and facial contours

Sculptra’s collagen production reinforces the skin structure within the deep dermis, so a long-lasting result is achieved and patients can see results lasting for over 2 years.

In a clinical trial by manufacturer Galderma Laboratories, 94%of patients agreed that Sculptra treatment results look natural at 2 years after treatment.

Sculptra ‘Glow’

In addition to volume, Sculptra has a number of other potential benefits to the appearance of the skin as it promotes a healthier texture, tone and quality too; giving patients a subtle ‘glow’.
