The increase in popularity of male grooming has been well documented over the last 10 years.
Now it is quite socially acceptable for men to have their eyebrows neatened and spend money on a decent daily moisturiser.
New research has shown that the peak age for men spending on ‘beauty’ products and treatments is in their 30’s. This is when they are most image conscious and spend the most on anti-ageing treatments in order to tackle those undeniable signs of ageing that become visible in this decade.
According to the research, thirty-somethings spend £100 a month on spa treatments and personal grooming – more than any other decade.
They are also happier to spend on top quality moisturiser, with an average figure quoted of £50 vs the £11 stated by their female counterparts in a separate survey.
Practically non-existent a decade ago, the male UK skincare market is now worth an estimated £600 million a year.
A spokesperson for Debenhams who commissioned the survey said:
“The stigma associated with male grooming has finally disappeared and men are not only willing to spend money to maintain their looks, they are also recommending products to one another and frequently visiting salons and spas, sometimes in groups”
This trend is echoed in the professional skin treatments arena, where companies such as Mulberry House Clinic & Laser Centre based in Northamptonshire see increasing numbers of men for skin treatments.
Botox is highly popular among thirty year old men seeking treatments, as it offers a guaranteed result in smoothing out lines and wrinkles. Increasingly, men are seeking this anti-ageing option in order to compete and be more confident in the workplace.
Other options include peels and microdermabrasion which keep the skin soft, supple and in good condition by an intensive exfoliation process.
